Home Improvement Grants and Increase Property Value

There is no better time than now for those in need of necessary repairs in order to sell their homes to apply for home improvement grants. During this dramatically unstable situation that the American housing market is experiencing, many unfortunate American citizens are being forced out of their homes. Sadly many of their situations are the result of foreclosure, which can be prevented. But that is a topic for a whole additional article. For now I’d like to talk about assistance for those who are just a few steps ahead of foreclosure. This article may be of specific interest to the families and individuals who are preparing to sell their beloved homes, at much less than there worth, to try and make a last ditch effort to avoid losing everything in a hostile bank foreclosure.

Remodeling your home may be your ticket to recouping your losses, and in some cases even help you save your home. Home improvement grants can help you do just that. If you are determined and resourceful enough to locate the agencies that award this type of funding, you can very likely maneuver yourself a way to remodel and keep your home. Or at very least upgrade it enough to increase the property value before the time of sale.  There are a number of ways you can utilize government home improvement grants to save your home or sell it at an elevated price.

In the simplest plan, you’d want to use this free government money to upgrade and remodel the property to increase the sale price for quick sale.

If you’d like to keep your property, but are falling behind on mortgage there is a bit more detailed plan. It’s quite a bit of work, and sometimes a long shot, but the most determined to save their homes have proven to pull it off. This can be a time consuming strategy and is recommended only for those who are not on the verge of foreclosure. You can apply for several home improvement grants and do a complete and total gutting and rehab of the property.  Once the project is complete you can quite possibly be able to refinance at a much higher property value and perhaps even lower your mortgage rate. If you are determined and diligent enough, this can be accomplished. Again, this is only recommended for individuals who have time on their side.

In the mid case scenario, those who possess moderately large single family homes that they wish to keep, may want to consider using home improvement grants to finance reconstruction of the property.  If you are willing to down size your personal living space, you can reconstruct your single family home into more than one unit. The second unit can be used as a rental apartment, hence not only saving your home, but providing you with an income as well. If you are uncomfortable with reconstructing your home, you may also want to consider reforming a garage into a coach house or something of that nature.

In any scenario, this is free government money that can potentially save your home, and at very least help you get more out of it if you’re forced to give it up.
